Wolves make major Adama Traore decision amid Tottenham transfer interest

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly been handed a huge blow in their pursuit of Adama Traore with Wolves having rejected a proposal for the winger.

The Spaniard had been linked with a move to north London over recent days, with Nuno Espirito Santo keen to be reunited with one of his former players.

It was also suggested that Spurs transfer chief Fabio Paratici had lodged a loan offer with a £5million fee for the former Barcelona player, including an option to buy come the conclusion of the initial deal.

However, the club appear to have been left frustrated in their pursuit of the 25-year-old.

According to The Telegraph, Wolves have rejected the offer from Tottenham out of hand and are keen on keeping Traore in the West Midlands. In fact, it is also detailed that the club are attempting to commit him to a new contract at Molineux in order to stave off any unwanted attention.

He currently has just two years left to run on his current deal and would potentially be one of those under threat of leaving should a new contract fail to be agreed. Meanwhile, new Wolves head coach Bruno Lage is confident over Traore’s commitment to the club.

When asked if the winger is set to stay, the Portuguese replied: “Yes, I think so, we want to create a strong side, a better side to be competitive.

“We need competition for a long Premier League season and the League Cup, if players are not fit we need people to come in for them.”

The news will of course be a big blow to Spurs, who were reportedly eyeing Traore as a potential recruit in the final days of the transfer window.

The club’s current wide options are somewhat restricted, with the likes of Steven Bergwijn, Lucas Moura, Heung Min-Son and Bryan Gil realistically the only options for Nuno Espirito Santo for the 2021/22 season.

Despite the blow concerning Traore, Spurs do instead appear set to sign a wideman in the form of Metz wonderkid Pape Matar Sarr, but he is reportedly going to be loaned back to his current employers for the campaign ahead of a £14.6m switch to north London next summer.
