Cristiano Ronaldo’s confirmed Man United transfer agreement could be fantastic news for Arsenal

Cristiano Ronaldo is on his way back to the Premier League, and it could be fantastic news for Arsenal.

Having looked set for a move to Manchester City, in a surprise turn of events on Friday it was confirmed that the 36-year-old is set to rejoin Manchester United after they agreed to pay an initial €15million (£12m) to Juventus plus up to €8m (£6m) in bonuses.

“Manchester United is delighted to confirm that the club has reached an agreement with Juventus for the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo, subject to agreement of personal terms, visa and medical,” a statement via Manutd.com reads.

With the deal set to be completed before the summer transfer window closes on Tuesday, Ronaldo ‘s return to Man United could see one or two players move on as a result.

Interestingly, some Arsenal and Man United fans are in agreement that Jesse Lingard would be a very good signing for Mikel Arteta’s side.

The 28-year-old is back at Old Trafford after spending the second half of last season on loan at West Ham United, where he caught the eye with nine goals in 16 appearances.

Given the Gunners’ lack of goals from midfield players, Lingard would certainly be a welcome addition at the Emirates Stadium should Arteta and technical director Edu decide to make an approach.

With Ronaldo’s return imminent, coupled with the likes of Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial ahead of Lingard in the pecking order – whether it be out wide or in the attacking midfield role – he may need to leave in order for regular first-team football this season.

And there’s a theory that joining Arsenal would be a good move for both parties.

With that said, whilst Lingard has previously been linked with a move to Arsenal, chances of a deal before deadline day appear to be highly unlikely.

Back in April, it was reported that Arteta was interested in signing Lingard but only on the condition that if a permanent deal for Martin Odegaard did not happen.

As many are aware, the Gunners managed to bring the Norway captain back to the Emirates Stadium in a £34m deal from La Liga giants Real Madrid, so any move for Lingard would be a surprise.
