Tottenham striker Harry Kane has given his verdict as Spurs went top of the Premier League following a tight 1-0 victory over Watford.
Kane played the full 90 minutes for the first time in the league this season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side made it three consecutive 1-0 wins in England’s top division.
Despite scoring his first goals of the season midweek in the second leg of the Europa Conference League against Portuguese outfit Pacos de Ferreira on Thursday night, Kane could not follow up his goalscoring menace against the Hornets.
His only shot of the game in N17 came late on in the 84th minute, but Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann denied the 28-year-old as he looked to start his quest for a fourth golden boot award.
Unfortunately for the serial goalscorer, it wasn’t his day in front of goal, but he take solace at the fact that Spurs are the only team left in the Premier League with a 100% winning record.
He tweeted: ‘Three out of three. Great start before the international break.’
Manager Espirito Santo has requested for a clean slate going forward with the Englishmen after his proposed move to the champions never came to fruition.
Speaking after Thursday night’s victory over Pacos, the Portuguese said: “My answer is that I see Harry every day since he joined us, and he doesn’t have to prove to anyone, he’s committed – you can see.
“Everything that’s happened is part of the past, let’s move forward… I saw him today, at the end of the game, now it#s time to recover. He’s one more that will help us.
“He played good, he scored, he had good movements and helped team in and out of possession.
“He’s still improving, but I think playing is the best way for the players to improve, to compete and that is what takes the players beyond their limits. That’s what we expect from everyone.”
Gareth Southgate will be relying on the services of his star man during this upcoming International break, and Spurs fans will certainly hope that Kane comes away from this next week unscathed as London derby’s against Crystal Palace and Chelsea await in September.
Tottenham correspondent for football.london Alasdair Gold gave the striker an average 5 out of 10 in his player ratings of the north London club from Sunday’s proceedings.
