‘No consistency’ – Arsenal fans upset at Paul Pogba tackle after Granit Xhaka red card

Arsenal fans have called for more consistent refereeing in the Premier League after Paul Pogba’s challenge on Ruben Neves in Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Wolves went unpunished.

The incident involving Pogba occurred just one day after Gunners midfielder Granit Xhaka was given his marching orders in the 35th minute following a poor tackle on Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo.

Although Arsenal were only two down at the time, Gabriel Jesus added a third shortly before half-time and Mikel Arteta’s side went onto lose the game 5-0.

The humiliating result has left the north London outfit sitting 20th in the Premier League table, already nine points adrift from the current leaders – and bitter rivals – Tottenham.

Although some images show that the challenge on Neves could be deemed reckless, the tackle wasn’t given a foul at the time, and led directly to the only goal of the game for Mason Greenwood, which angered fans that little bit more.

Whilst many Gunners agree that Xhaka’s tackle was deservedly shown a red card, they cannot wrap their heads around what seems like inconsistent refereeing yet again in the Premier League.

@Navnit013 said: “Pogba is much more dangerous as he’s leading with a straight knee, full force of impact. Xhaka has a folded knee, more like a shock absorber… but both should be RED.”

@nathanielmead said: “All the pundits who slated Xhaka yesterday will now say Pogba did nothing wrong in the build-up to the goal.”

@Baggers91 said: “Absolutely embarrassing that Xhaka is sent off and Pogba isn’t. Utd actually get a goal from this. Partner that with the punch on Chambers, and the other 3 disgraceful decisions we’ve had so far and you wonder how bad it will get this season.”

Arsenal will look to revive their start to the season after the international break, starting with a home clash with fellow strugglers Norwich at the Emirates on September 11.
