Chelsea fans were proud to see former academy graduate Tammy Abraham open his goalscoring account in Serie A for Jose Mourinho’s Roma side.
Abraham signed a five-year contract at the Stadio Olimpico, as Marina Granovskaia raised a £30million transfer windfall to potentially help fund further incoming business before August 31.
Chelsea have included a buy-back option in the deal set at £68million. That does not become active, however, until the summer of 2023.
And that decision to include a buy-back clause already looks to be an astute decision from the Blues board, as it hasn’t taken the 23-year-old too long to acclimatise.
His double-assist contribution on his debut was followed up by his first goal for Mourinho’s side in their second Serie A game of the season away to newcomers Salernitana, as well as some stunning play in the build-up to Jordan Veretout’s goal.
It was a contest which they ended up winning 4-0 with Abraham scoring the third goal of the evening with a beautiful strike outside the box, rounding off a free-flowing move from the Giallorossi.
Here is how a selection of Chelsea fans reacted to the goal that was scored in the 69th minute.
@BrainGDK tweeted: ‘Tammy Abraham stunning goal for Roma. Been incredible again today.’
@Laus1507 also praised another former Blues striker alongside Abraham: ‘Tammy Abraham & Olivier Giroud both scored their first Serie A goals tonight!
‘Well done lads.
‘2 absolute beauties as well!’
@kingkaifc was delighted: “Tammy Abraham has scored for Roma.”
@CFCprof gave his brief verdict of Roma’s new summer recruit: “He’s quality.”
@SonOfChelsea expressed their delight: “What a finish from Tammy. Beautiful scenes of glorious emotion.”
Despite his goal on Sunday night, @OmedHassan64 is still glad that Granovskaia and co. still decided to sell the Englishmen: “Happy that Tammy Abraham has started well at Roma but i’m still glad we sold him.”
@tovers98 ambitiously claimed: ‘Tammy Abraham upstaging Messi.
‘I am all here for this.’
Roma’s next game at home to Sassuolo on Sunday, September 12, is the next opportunity for Chelsea fans to see if their beloved ex-striker can add to his first league goal.
