Arsenal have been linked with a move for Lyon and Brazil midfielder Bruno Guimaraes and he has now made a big admission about his future.
The 23-year-old, who has less than three years remaining on his contract with the French club, is reportedly of interest to the Gunners.
Now, Guimaraes has been speaking about his future at Lyon and has claimed Arsenal approached his agent over a move, but did say there was no official offer made for his services.
He told Globo, in quotes carried by GFFN: “Arsenal approached my agent, but there was no offer. My aim, and I made it clear to Juninho, is to win a title with Lyon.
“The fans have not had one for a long time. We have the Coupe de France, the Europa League and the league. It is difficult with the level that PSG are at, but anything can happen.
“My aim is to win a title here, but I have never hidden my desire to play in the Premier League.”
A report from Goal earlier in the summer suggested that Arsenal director Edu has been ‘closely following’ the Lyon midfielder, while Arsenal were even quoted as scouting him back in January 2020 – 18 months ago – before he eventually opted to sign for Ligue 1 outfit Lyon instead.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has hinted that there is more business to still be done before the transfer window closes on Tuesday evening.
Speaking on August 20, Arteta said: “There is still 11 days to go and there’s still things to be done.
“There are still players in the squad where it is going to be difficult for them to find game time.”
The Gunners have already signed five players so far this summer, with Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Ben White, Martin Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale all arriving at the Emirates Stadium over the past couple of months.
The north London club could still look to offload some of their fringe players before the clock hits 11pm on Tuesday, with Reiss Nelson and Ainsley Maitland-Niles looking set to leave.
