Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of securing a late deal for Barcelona defender Emerson Royal appear remote.
It was reported over the last few days that Spurs were interested in a deal for the Brazilian and were engaged in talks with the Catalan giants regarding the possibility of doing a deal during negotiations for youngster Ilaix Moriba.
However, the possibility of signing the right-back seems increasingly unlikely.
It is reported by CalcioMercato journalist Matteo Moretto that Barcelona currently have no plans to let Emerson leave the club this summer – something that may not come as a huge surprise considering the Brazilian started for the club at the weekend during their 2-1 victory against Getafe.
In fact, it was the 22-year-old’s third appearance of the campaign, Emerson attempting to force his way into the first-team picture after spending the last two and a half seasons with Real Betis.
While Barcelona’s stance makes any deal in the final few days of the transfer window difficult, Spurs also still have plenty of work to do if they are to facilitate any further moves this summer.
Serge Aurier, whilst being out of favour under Nuno Espirito Santo, has yet to secure himself a move away from north London. This means that alongside Matt Doherty and Japhet Tanganga, there is little room in the current squad for another right-back.
The news surrounding Emerson will of course be a big blow to Tottenham after they failed to secure the services of his Barca teammate Ilaix Moriba.
The midfielder is out of contract at the end of the current campaign, with a number of clubs interested including Premier League rivals Chelsea.
But if reports are to be believed, the 18-year-old has agreed a move to Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig.
