What Ainsley Maitland-Niles has done on Instagram as Arsenal exit looms

Arsenal’s hectic summer transfer window is nearing its conclusion, with Tuesday night’s deadline fast approaching.

The Gunners’ have made five additions to their squad in the form of English duo Ben White and Aaron Ramsdale, Portuguese left-back Nuno Tavares, Belgian midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga and Norwegian playmaker Martin Odegaard.

The aforementioned five players have left head coach Mikel Arteta with a bloated squad and the Spaniard is now looking to offload several fringe players in the hope of freeing up the club’s wage bill.

One of the players that looks set to depart is the versatile defender-come-midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles, with The Athletic reporting that Rafa Benitez’s Everton are keen on bringing the 24-year-old to Goodison Park on a season-long loan with an option to buy.

Now, Maitland-Niles has broken his silence on his future at the Emirates Stadium by posting an emotional message that is seemingly aimed at Arteta, who has failed to give him consistent minutes in the last 12 months.

His Instagram story read: “All I wanna (sic) do is go where I’m wanted and where I’m gonna play @Arsenal.”

Maitland-Niles enjoyed exceptional form during the 2019/20 season to help the north Londoners clinch a record 14th FA Cup trophy and earned his first cap for England after manager Gareth Southgate was impressed with the youngster’s performances.

However, he quickly fell down the pecking order under Arteta’s stewardship before he was loaned to Sam Allardyce’s West Brom side during the second half of last season.

The London-born youngster has just two years left on his current deal with Arsenal, where he has made 123 appearances since former manager Arsene Wenger handed him his first-team debut back in 2014.

Maitland-Niles has been at the club since he was six, joining the youth set-up back in 2003.
