With the summer transfer window closing on Tuesday, there’s still time for Chelsea to delve into the market and make some last-minute additions.
Never short of players being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, Marina Granovskaia has her work cutout if she is to complete any incoming transfers.
There also may be some outgoings with a few fringe players still being courted by various clubs around Europe.
With Kurt Zouma completing a move to West Ham, the Blues are a defender light for the season and time is running out for a replacement to arrive.
One defender who has had his name linked non-stop to Stamford Bridge is Sevilla’s Jules Kounde.
Football.london has reported this summer that a deal could be completed for £42million and Zouma’s exit made a transfer more likely.
That no longer seems to be the case, with Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano tweeted in the early hours of Tuesday morning: “Chelsea had a complicated and tense day for Jules Koundé negotiations with Sevilla. Deal on the verge of collapsing many times but… today Chelsea will try again with final approach. Sevilla are so strong on their position.”
To make matters worse, Romano also noted that a move for midfielder Saul Niguez is now impossible.
“Saúl deal now completely blocked,” he tweeted.
However, for some Chelsea fans, that is a good thing. Blues supporters took to Twitter to make case for the club to hijack Renato Sanches’ loan to Premier League-side Wolves.
Chelsea have got off to a flying start to the season, winning their opening two games and then drawing against Liverpool 1-1 despite the Blues playing the second-half with 10 men.
