“League wrapped up by Christmas” – Tottenham fans react to major Ndombele transfer decision

Tottenham fans have been expressing their delight at the decision to keep Tanguy Ndombele in north London beyond deadline day.

The midfielder had been linked with a late move away from Spurs, having fallen down the pecking order under new boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

The Portuguese even admitted that Ndombele needs to motivate himself in order to start turning in positive displays for the club.

Talking earlier this month, he said: “What I can tell you is that Tanguy is with us, he works but we have to speak honestly and to take the best out of Tanguy [it] has to come from himself.

“I don’t want to go much further than that but it has to come from himself.

“We already had a chance to talk but it must come from himself. I said it before, my job here is not to convince players to play for Tottenham Hotspur, it is to prepare players to play for Tottenham Hotspur.”

The France international had even asked to leave the club, with Spurs having received interest from a number of La Liga clubs.

However, he is now set to remain in north London beyond the closure of the transfer window after a board level decision, football.london understands.

He is now set to be reintegrated into the Tottenham matchday squad after the international break having been training with the first-team.

Ndombele arrived in 2019 in a club record £54million deal from French giants Lyon.

He has gone on to appear 75 times for the club in all competitions, scoring eight goals, one of which was an exceptional lofted effort against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

The 24-year-old still has four years left to run on his current contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and will now remain in north London until at least January, barring a huge bid.
