Arsenal have spent more than any other Premier League club this summer.
The Gunners have splashed in excess of £130million on five young players in an attempt to build a long-term project that consists of high potential players with room to develop.
English shot-stopper Aaron Ramsdale, along with centre-half Ben White and Portuguese fullback Nuno Tavares have been brought in to help shore up their leaky defence, while Albert Sambi Lokonga and Martin Odegaard have been added as midfield options to replace the departing Matteo Guendouzi and Dani Ceballos.
However, technical director Edu may feel the need to conduct some last-minute business considering the Gunners have lost all three of their opening Premier League fixtures all the while failing to score a single goal.
football.london takes a look at three players that they could end up moving for on transfer deadline day.
Arsenal have been consistently linked with French midfielder Houssem Aouar for the last two years and were reportedly extremely close to adding him to their ranks last summer before the deal fell through.
Lyon had slapped a £42million price tag on the silky playmaker’s head last summer but fast forward just 12 months and Get French Football News has claimed that he could be available on loan with an obligation to buy on deadline day.
Considering Arsenal’s torrid chance creation record under Arteta, which has seen them score just 87 goals in 61 Premier League games, then a move for the French international makes sense considering he registered 4.88 chance-creating actions per game last term.
Furthermore, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has told his followers to keep tabs on Aouar in the final hours of the transfer window.
“Keep an eye on Houssem Aouar as a last-minute opportunity for English clubs, Arsenal have so far not given an answer for the OL (Lyon) midfielder”, he said.
Arsenal have an extremely young backline, with centre-backs Gabriel and White 22 and 23, respectively, whilst left-back Kieran Tierney has just turned 24. Therefore, perhaps signing an experienced right-back like Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier makes sense.
The Gunners have been linked with the veteran Englishman in recent weeks and a move seems more likely given Atletico are reportedly pursuing Lille fullback Zeki Celik, according to the Turkish international’s agent.
Still, any deal to bring the former Spurs ace to the Emirates today will hinge on Arsenal offloading one of their current right-backs, with Hector Bellerin seemingly the most likely to leave north London given reported interest from Real Betis and Barcelona.
Arsenal have a history of signing Real Madrid playmakers, with the likes of Mesut Ozil, Dani Ceballos and most recently Martin Odegaard all swapping Madrid for north London in recent years.
And according to Spanish outlet todofichajes, via Tuttomercato, the Gunners are interested in another Los Blancos’ attacking midfielder in the form of Marco Asensio
The Spanish international is valued at £31.5million on Transfermarkt, a reasonable price for a 25-year-old who has won everything there is to win at club level.
Asensio averaged 3.42 shot-creating actions and 8.32 progressive carries for Real last term.
