Arsenal’s 2021/22 Premier League campaign has got off to a terrible start.
The Gunners are rooted to the bottom of the league table after losing all three of their opening league fixtures.
Mikel Arteta’s side have conceded nine unanswered goals across matches against Brentford, Chelsea and Manchester City, condemning them to their worst start to a season since 1954.
Following the club’s torrid run of results, the Spaniard is coming under increasing criticism for the decision to send promising young centre-back William Saliba on loan to Marseille considering senior defenders Calum Chambers, Pablo Mari and Rob Holding have all struggled so far this term.
Now, it is another Arsenal loanee that has been impressing, with 21-year-old Daniel Ballard scoring for Northern Ireland against Lithuania on Thursday night, his first strike for the Green and White Army’s senior side.
Ballard, who is spending the season on loan at Championship side Millwall, impressed last term while at Blackpool, guiding The Seasiders to victory in the League 1 play-off final.
A number of Arsenal fans took to social media after the youngster’s goal, claiming that his recent exploits mean he would now perform better for Arteta’s side than the aforementioned Holding or Mari.
Here is how a select few reacted to the goal on Twitter.
@igorsteps_ : “Daniel Ballard is probably better than Holding and Mari.”
@Doug_1886 : “Arsenal could do with Daniel Ballard.”
@_RyanAFC : “Definitely feel like Daniel Ballard is a player to keep an eye on for Arsenal. Very decent young centre back. Good loan at Blackpool last season, currently doing well for Millwall getting plenty of minutes. Now forcing his way into the Northern Ireland first team.
@seasider4eva : “What’s he doing at Millwall he should be in the Arsenal first team. He’s better than what’s playing at the moment
@AlexCullen17 : “Holding and Mari out, Ballard in next season please.”
