‘The league better watch out!’ – Chelsea fans love what Werner has done after Lukaku transfer

Chelsea fans have been excited to see Timo Werner look in good form in training with a lovely goal he scored during a shooting drill.

Werner, 25, endured a difficult first season in the blue jersey of Chelsea in attack, only registering 12 goals in 52 appearances last season.

This summer, Chelsea splurged a whopping £98million on Serie A MVP winner Romelu Lukaku with manager Thomas Tuchel wanting a 30 goal-a-season striker in his ranks to help mount a serious title challenge to current champions Manchester City.

The German’s contributions in terms of providing assists for his teammates, that has never been a real problem as the 25-year-old provided three more assists compared to the number of goals he scored in all competitions last term.

However, goal creating was not the main factor that convinced the Blues hierarchy to pay Werner’s release clause of £50million in the 2020 summer transfer window.

But just maybe with the arrival of the Belgian talismanic figure, we may see the RB Leipzig version of Werner finally appear and a clip from a recent Chelsea training session suggests that this may be the case with his lethal finishing.

A clip circulating on Reddit shows the versatile forward curling a beautiful strike into the top corner of the goal after a one-two with a Chelsea coach.

Here is how a selection of fans from the west-London club reacted to seeing this moment of brilliance from the German international.

@r/chelseafc joked: ‘Yeah, it’s over for the Premier League.’

@KroosKontroller said: ‘I want to watch TurboRom.’

@half_jase questioned: ‘So…when is Tuchel gonna try out Werner and Lukaku up front as a front 2 pairing?’

@Wheel94 pointed out: ‘Lukaku did teach him this lol.’

@Nature__Boy warned: ‘Mate if Werner and Havertz start banging them in like they’re capable, then the league better watch out.’

@EdEnsHAzArD has suggested a formation to accommodate the 25-year-old: ‘Dying to see Lukaku centrally, Werner on the left, and Havertz on the right.’

In spite of the increased competition for places in the Chelsea frontline, Werner has already admitted his excitement for playing alongside the Blues’ new number nine in the front three.

“He’s probably one of the best three strikers in the world at the moment,” Werner told Sky Sports.

“There is no question about that, I don’t think we need to say too much about him. He’s a world-class striker who would benefit any team.

“I certainly think at Leipzig that it always helped me having a big striker alongside me.

“I think that’s always good because I’m not the biggest and when you play up front on your own, you always have the attention of one or two defenders.

“It’s a good new weapon to have in our game when you know that if you play a long ball, he will hold it up.

“And then the fast players around him can the set off- I think that’s good for any team.”

Werner was an unused substitute at Anfield as Chelsea drew 1-1 with Liverpool on Saturday, while he came off the bench the week before as the Blues beat Arsenal 2-0 in Lukaku’s first match since returning to the club.

Werner is in action this evening for his country as Germany face Leichtenstein in a World Cup qualifier and it’s great to report that he scored the opening goal for Hansi Flick’s side before the half-time interval.
