West Ham duo up for Premier League award following phenomenal start to campaign

West Ham’s star attackers Michail Antonio and Said Benrahma have been shortlisted for the EA Sports Premier League Player of the Month for August.

The Hammers duo have both been in fine form at the start of the season and make up one-third of the six-man shortlist.

Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso, Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier, Everton winger Demarai Gray and Manchester United attacker Mason Greenwood complete the list.

Antonio’s nomination comes after being involved in a league-high eight goals in just three games this season.

The striker has got on the scoresheet four times and added three assists to his name already and is looking for his second Player of the Month award following his July 2020 triumph.

The Hammers’ strikers form has seen him called up to the Jamaica squad, with the 31-year-old set to make his international debut in this weekend’s World Cup qualifier against Panama.

Benrahma appears on the shortlist for the first time in his career and is nominated after a fine start to the campaign.

The Algerian attacking midfielder has scored twice and grabbed two assists in his three starts this season forging a fine partnership with Antonio in the Hammers attack.

Benrahma’s spot in the side could come under pressure from new signing Nikola Vlasic but if the Hammers No. 22 keeps us his fine form, David Moyes will find it hard to leave him out.

West Ham were well represented in the Player of the Month awards last season, with Jesse Lingard picking up the trophy in April having been nominated in three successive months.

The Player of the Month award is decided by a vote which is open until 11am on Monday, September 6, with the winner announced at 11am on Friday September 10.
