‘Recipe for disaster’ – Arsenal fans react to Serge Aurier transfer links after Tottenham exit

Serge Aurier left Tottenham Hotspur on deadline day by mutual consent after the club agreed to terminate his contract a year early.

The 28-year-old likely would’ve been registered in the Premier League so that he could play the odd match in case of injuries, but it was made clear he would be facing a similar season in the wilderness as Danny Rose did before his departure to Watford.

Spurs also confirmed the arrival of Emerson Royal on the same day as Aurier’s departure, leaving him no option but to ask the club for a way out.

While the transfer deadline has now passed, Premier League clubs are still able to snap up free agents whenever they please, permitting they have room in their current squads.

Now that Aurier is a free agent, he has been linked with a potentially shocking move to the red side of north London, as Arsenal are reportedly looking to add another right-back despite their own deadline day signing in Takehiro Tomiyasu.

According to journalist Ekrem Knour, via the Express, Edu and Mikel Arteta have been offered the chance to sign the player on a free, and are considering doing so.

The Ivorian, who is known to have supported Arsenal growing up, would add a wealth of Premier League experience to the squad.

However, he’s also been guilty of committing a number of clumsy mistakes over the years, and signing him would be a gamble, especially as he could demand a fair amount in wages.

Plus, it will take a lot for him to win over support after he spent exactly four years with rivals Spurs.
