West Ham had a busy end to the transfer window with Nikola Vlasic and Alex Kral joining on deadline day just three days after Kurt Zouma’s signing was announced.
Vlasic was signed from CSKA Moscow for a fee of £25.7million and comes into bolster the Hammers attack. The 23-year-old Croatian joined the Hammers on a five-year deal and will link up with his new teammates following the international window.
Late in the day just a few hours before the transfer window closed Kral was confirmed as the newest Hammer.
The Czech international joins initially on loan from Spartak Moscow with West Ham having an option to buy that becomes an obligation if Kral starts a set number of matches.
football.london understands the fee for Kral is an initial £3million for the loan period, with £12million to be paid next summer and up to £5million in extras if certain criteria are met.
Following Zouma’s arrival West Ham announced the centre-back will don the number four shirt when he turns out for the Hammers but as yet no numbers have been assigned to Vlasic or Kral.
Over the course of his career in Croatia, England and Russia Vlasic has most often worn the number eight shirt. However, with Pablo Fornlas taking the number after Felipe Anderson’s departure Vlasic will be denied his favourite number.
Vlasic’s squad number during his time with Everton was 27, which is available to him at West Ham should he wish, as is the No.18 that he has worn on occasion on international duty.
In his most recent international appearance, Vlasic wore the No.10 shirt with previous occupier Luka Modric unavailable. During Euro 2020 Vlasic wore 13, but at West ham fellow summer arrival Alphonse Areola owns that shirt.
Unless Vlasic chooses to return to his Everton number of 27, the attacking-midfielder is likely to choose the No.11 shirt at West Ham. Last season that was worn by first Robert Snodgrass and then to great success by Jesse Lingard.
Kral’s number at international level is 21, but Angelo Ogbonna has control of that at the Hammers so the midfielder will have to select another option.
At club level Kral wore 33 for the past four seasons at both Spartak Moscow and Slavia Prague. That number is free at West Ham should he wish to wear it.
Other options for both Kral and Vlasic are 11, 12, 14, 17, 18 and 19.
