Arsenal’s hectic summer transfer window has come to a close.

The Gunners spent more money than any other Premier League club, splashing out in excess of £150million on six different players.

Technical director Edu identified problems in the club’s backline and brought in three defenders in the form of Ben White, Nuno Tavares and more recently Takehiro Tomiyasu, who was signed for a reported £17million on deadline day.

The Japanese international is extremely versatile, having consistently played at centre-back as well as right-back, where head coach Mikel Arteta admitted he is more likely to be deployed.

“We followed him for a while”, he told the club’s media. “We needed a full back who could be very versatile, can play as a centre back, can play in a back three, Tomi has this capacity.

“He is 22 years old but he has some really good experience in Serie A and at international level and with the qualities we are looking for.”

One of the main qualities that the former Bologna ace possesses is incredible recovery speed, an attribute that is needed to survive in the Premier League, as evidenced by Spanish defender Pablo Mari’s recent struggles for the Gunners.

Now, Arsenal fans noticed an instance of Tomiyasu’s exceptional pace when facing Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe during an international friendly last year.

A small eight-second clip has done the rounds on Reddit of Tomiyasu comfortably dealing with a run from Pepe, utilising his speed before clearing the danger for Japan as Arsenal fans then voiced their excitement at the 22-year-old’s noticeable physical attributes.

Here is how a select few reacted to this specific clip.

I can’t count how many times I’ve seen balls where you would think Holding or Chambers should get but to be out runned by the offensive player. We won’t have that issue anymore with Tomi.”

BaybarsElSaif said: “From what I’ve seen this man has great technique and is super industrious. Never heard of him before but I’m happy we got em.”

OVYLT said: “Ok he’s fast. I thought he had a little pace but if he can pocket Pepe like that, he’s fast enough for the Prem for sure.”
