EPL: ‘Really poor’ – Man Utd’s Phil Jones fires back at Rio Ferdinand

Manchester United defender, Phil Jones, has fired back at the club’s legend, Rio Ferdinand, after comments he made on his podcast.

Ferdinand had recently called Jones, who has not featured in a first-team game for Man United since January 2020, a ‘waste of time’.

He also urged Jones to leave Man United, adding that he was ‘taking up a youth player’s position’ in the Red Devils squad.

But Man United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, defended Jones after Ferdinand’s comments, claiming the player was working hard to get back to fitness.

Ferdinand eventually apologised for the comments claiming he didn’t know the extent of Jones’ injury problems recently.

Reacting to the development, Jones, who is fighting to get back fit again by featuring for Man United’s Under-23s in recent weeks, insisted that Ferdinand’s comments were ‘really poor’.

“Listen, the respect I have got is enormous. I have shared a dressing room with Rio [Ferdinand] — great professional. Loved playing with him. Great lad, good humour. I Learned so much from him.

“But what he said was poor. Really poor. I am not into disputes, not into arguments, and if he didn’t know, he didn’t know,” Jones told the Times.
