Micah Richards and Roy Keane have praised Thiago Silva’s positive Chelsea influence following his excellent performance against Spurs on Sunday.

The Brazilian was an ever-constant presence in the heart of the Blues defence at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as he helped keep the likes of Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son quiet throughout the match.

He was also an extremely effective presence at the other end as he nodded in Chelsea ’s opener just a few minutes after the half-time interval, whilst he was also denied a second by Spurs stopper Hugo Lloris.

Following his display, Silva was the topic of plenty of praise for both his performance and his goal – just the third of his Blues’ career so far.

Speaking to Sky Sports, former Manchester City man Micah Richards said: “It’s [the goal] very intelligent the way he hangs out at the edge of the box. He was always going to get the advantage, take nothing from the header.

“Not just the goal, his performance was outstanding, the way he was leading it. Talking, he constantly pushes defenders up high.

“When he signed from PSG, I was thinking why don’t PSG want to keep him 36, you’re thinking is he over the hill? He’s still a top, top defender.”

Meanwhile, Roy Keane was highly complimentary of the 36-year-old in the way he has responded from a somewhat difficult start to his Chelsea career last season.

The Irishman said: “A lot of the time it’s about who wants to head the ball? We’ve seen his defending, he had a tough start if you remember last season, for one or two games he was shaky.

“But he’s had a year in the game, he’s used to the pace, he’s surrounded by brilliant players.”

Silva started alongside both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen in the heart of the Chelsea back-line, with the former also getting on the scoresheet alongside his Blues’ colleague.
