For the first time in his career, Hector Bellerin has experienced a home debut in a La Liga clash.
Of course, after joining Arsenal from Barcelona before breaking into the first-team picture at the Camp Nou, the right-back has had to wait over a decade before making his mark in Spain.
Thanks to sealing his Gunners exit in the summer transfer window, Bellerin has fulfilled his father’s wish of playing for Real Betis.
“Being able to make my father happy with a dream that is his, and fulfilling it for him, makes me very excited,” he said when speaking to ABC de Sevilla, via HITC.
“It is a feeling my father has instilled since I was little.
“As a child I was a bit of a turncoat, but he forced me to wear the Betis shirt.”
Bellerin was able to pull on the Betis shirt for the first time since joining the La Liga side on loan from Arsenal at the beginning of the week as he made his debut in a 2-1 win at Granada.
But after being an unused substitute for the 4-3 Europa League over Celtic last Thursday, Bellerin made his home bow on Sunday afternoon when Betis welcomed Espanyol to the Benito Villamarin Stadium.
Despite the fact that Bellerin’s special day was somewhat spoiled by an equaliser in the seventh minute of injury time to earn the visitors a share of the points, he still made his mark.
The right-back showed great determination in the final third to keep an attack alive and square the ball for Nabil Fekir to put the hosts ahead in first-half injury time.
As a result, Bellerin managing to record an assist on his home debut in La Liga brought out a big response from Arsenal fans on Reddit.
