Marina Granovskaia told how much it will cost Chelsea to seal Thomas Tuchel’s transfer priority

Chelsea have reportedly made Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt their priority signing for the next summer transfer window.

The Blues want to add a central defender to their ranks, with Jules Kounde being the main target over the summer, but the west London club failed to reach an agreement with Sevilla.

With Thiago Silva now 36-years-old, as well as Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger being in the final year of their respective contracts, Thomas Tuchel is keen to bolster his defensive options.

Now, reports in Italy, via talkSPORT, are claiming that De Ligt is ‘top of Chelsea’s list this summer’.

The Netherlands international is said to have a £103million release clause in his contract with Juventus, that only becomes active next summer, and if the Blues did pay that, then it would be their record transfer.

Romelu Lukaku signed from Inter Milan last month for an estimated fee of £97.5m, but a deal for De Ligt could be worth even more.

The Dutch defender’s agent, Mino Raiola, recently suggested that his client could leave Juve at the end of the season, even though he still has just under three years remaining on his contract in Turin.

“De Ligt could leave Juve at the end of the season. That’s how the market works, there are many clubs interested in signing him,” Raiola said to Rai Sport.

Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri, though, responded to those comments from De Ligt’s agent and insisted that he will be with the Italian club for “many years” yet.

Allegri said earlier this month: “There is a standard path for everybody, players and coaches. De Ligt is a young player with quality, but he still needs to improve and will stay many years at Juventus, regardless of how many games he plays.

“De Ligt is 22-years-old. He is an excellent player. He joined Juventus from Ajax when he was only 20. After he arrived here, somebody wrote: ‘He is a future Ballon d’Or winner.’

“Guys, calm is needed. He is 20, but the Juventus jersey is a heavy one. Chiellini was probably not as good as De Ligt at his age, but at 27-28, he became a great player. It takes time.”

If the reports are true and Chelsea have switched from Kounde to De Ligt, then the latter will not come cheap, especially as Juve are under no pressure to sell because of his contractual situation.

Marina Granovskaia may need to use her negotiating magic yet again for the Blues to try and drive down the price, or face breaking their transfer record for a second successive summer.
