Edu handed ‘fantasy’ Alexis Sanchez transfer advice as Arsenal fans split on Inter Milan star

Kevin Campbell has claimed that Arsenal re-signing Alexis Sanchez would be a ‘fantasy’ transfer as reports continue to circulate tentatively linking him with a return to north London.

According to Calcio Mercato, Sanchez could be free to leave Inter Milan in January, with a whole host of clubs supposedly interested in his signature.

The Chile international initially joined the Gunners from Barcelona in 2014 and proved to be an instant fans’ favourite with his creative flair and goalscoring ability.

During his first season at the club, Sanchez scored 25 times in 52 appearances and helped them win the FA Cup, before lifting the Community Shield three months later.

He arguably had his best year in an Arsenal shirt when he netted 30 goals in the 2016/17 campaign which attracted plenty of interest from the top European clubs.

Arsenal, however, managed to keep Sanchez for six more months before he opted to sign for Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United.

It’s safe to say his spell at the Red Devils wasn’t the most memorable one and he signed for Inter Milan to get some regular game time.

Now 32, Sanchez is into his third season at the Italian giants but he could be set to depart and Kevin Campbell wasn’t against the idea of bringing him back to the Gunners, but did insist that a deal could be tough.

Speaking to Football Insider, the ex-Arsenal forward said: β€œI don’t think we would bring it back, but if you could get it at no cost and he was willing to join…

“Who knows what Mikel Arteta is going to do?

“It is a fantasy and a pleasant subject to imagine.”

The rumour has sparked plenty of chat from Arsenal supporters on social media and there has been mixed reaction to any potential reunion.

Here’s what they had to say:

@MElSayed88: Yes I would, but only if he takes huge pay cut, he has to work his way hard to earn his spot in the team and obtain the fans admiration.

@fonosayno: I wouldn’t take Alexis back if we received money for him. He’s past his prime, he couldn’t wait to leave us and he’s in his 30s now.

@better_pikin00: I will take him back in a heartbeat. Things didn’t go well, doesn’t mean he is not a fantastic player, ever since he left Arsenal his career went down. Yes please let him revive his career

@lukasteer_: Bring him to the carpet

@BennSelby: He doesn’t deserve the chance to play for us again. He left us in a heartbeat when Man Utd came knocking. Why should we take him back when things aren’t going so well for him.

@DannyAFCTV: Sanchez could defo fill the gap. Interesting. Guimeres is constantly linked also. Maybe for Partey going then to replace Xhaka next summer. Then a BIG NAME striker

@FemooAFC: I will completely stop believing in the process if Arsenal even considers Sanchez. I’m not even joking.
