Chelsea could receive £83m transfer windfall to help fund Thomas Tuchel’s dream summer window

Chelsea are somewhat expected to push for Declan Rice next summer, football.london understands, but he is unlikely to be cheap.

The Blues, who released Rice as a teenager, have been long-term admirers of the 22-year-old midfielder, but Manchester United are also set to move for the West Ham United star.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United have ‘earmarked’ the England international as their primary midfield target for the next summer transfer window.

It is also said that Man United have already discussed the possible framework of a deal with West Ham for the midfielder’s signature when the 2022 transfer window opens.

Rice is expected to cost around £100million, with Sky Sports reporting earlier this year that Hammers co-owner David Sullivan has slapped a nine-figure price tag on his head.

So, with Chelsea clearly interested in Rice, they may need to raise some money through player sales – and luckily for Thomas Tuchel, he has a massive amount of fringe players out on loan at the moment.

football.london has taken a close look at the players out on loan from Stamford Bridge right now and if they could be sold next summer – with all values of the selected players from football database Transfermarkt.

– Baba Rahman – £2.25m – June 2024 (on loan at Reading)

– Tiemoue Bakayoko – £18m – June 2024 (on loan at AC Milan)

– Kenedy – £9m – June 2023 (on loan at Flamengo)

– Emerson Palmieri – £12.6m – June 2024 (on loan at Lyon)

– Michy Batshuayi – £9m – June 2023 (on loan at Besiktas)

– Matt Miazga – £2.7m – June 2023 (on loan at Alaves)

– Ethan Ampadu – £13.5m – June 2024 (on loan at Venezia)

– Armando Broja – £2.7m – June 2026 (on loan at Southampton)

– Conor Gallagher – £13.5m – June 2025 (on loan at Crystal Palace)

All of these selected players were deemed surplus to requirements at Chelsea this season, with Tuchel making the decision to loan them out in order to gain some experience.

However, there are a few players in there – Batshuayi and Bakayoko being just two – who clearly do not have a future at the Blues and look set to leave on a permanent basis in the near future.

Gallagher is an interesting one. The Crystal Palace midfielder has been so impressive so far this season under Patrick Vieira, but will face a really difficult task of breaking into the Chelsea team under Tuchel, with the German coach having an array of options in central midfield.

If he continues his form, then Palace could look to make the deal permanent next summer and the Blues could be set for a big windfall.

Ampadu and Broja are also seen as big prospects, but as we have seen on numerous occasions in the past, it is so difficult to break into the Blues’ first-team squad and only really special talents manage to do so. Billy Gilmour – on loan at Norwich – could fall into that bracket.

That is not to say Ampadu and Broja cannot become special talents, but they may deem it a more sensible option to play their football elsewhere rather than be on the cusp of the action at Stamford Bridge.

If all these fringe players are to be sold next summer, or in January, and the values are near the fee paid for them, then Chelsea could be given £83m towards signing Rice or helping fund another dream window for Tuchel.
