‘Conte!’ – Chelsea fans say the same thing after Newcastle takeover update emerges

Chelsea supporters have been reacting to the news that Newcastle United have moved one step closer to being taken over.

According to our sister title Chronicle Live, the Saudi Arabia-backed consortium is now expected to see its bid for the Tyneside-based club can go through in the near future after the reversal of a ban on beIN SPORT.

The takeover saga has dragged on for around 18 months, with the majority of Newcastle supporters desperate to see controversial owner Mike Ashley sell his shares in the club.

According to The Times, the Magpies are expected to be taken over in the next 24 hours or so, and if the deal is agreed, manager Steve Bruce will be relieved of his duties.

Bruce is hardly a popular figure among the Newcastle supporters, with many protesting about the Geordie manager during his time at St. James’ Park.

It has been a far from ideal start to the campaign for Bruce and his men as well, with Newcastle currently in 19th place in the Premier League table – with the side yet to win a match in the top-flight this term.

Chelsea, who are currently sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League, take on the Magpies at St. James’ Park on October 30 and some Blues supporters think there could be a “first game bounce” if Bruce is replaced.

If Bruce is to be replaced, then there are numerous options available to Newcastle’s potential new owners.

Graeme Jones, who is part of Bruce’s backroom staff at the moment, is the bookies’ (via OddsChecker) favourite to take over from the Magpies boss.

Former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is also up there, just behind Jones, with Alan Shearer, Roberto Martinez, Antonio Conte, Rafael Benitez, Mark Hughes, Andre Villas-Boas and Steven Gerrard also names on the bookies’ list.

The Blues have a strong recent record against Newcastle, with the west London side winning both of their Premier League fixtures against the Magpies last season, by the same 2-0 scoreline.
