Here is your morning digest on Monday, October 11.

Billy Gilmour labelled world-class by Scotland teammate

Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn has praised Chelsea loanee Billy Gilmour for his ‘world-class’ performance for Scotland during the dramatic 3-2 win over Israel on Saturday.

“He’s a world-class player,” the Aston Villa man said about Gilmour after the game at Hampden Park, as per BBC Sport.

“He’s going through a wee rough patch at Norwich and frustrated not to be playing. But when he’s in the Scotland jersey, he’s always at the top of his game.

“He’s learning on the job as well.”

Chelsea’s Erling Haaland stance for 2022 known

There were few more rumoured transfers in the summer than that of Erling Haaland to Chelsea.

However, the Bundesliga club hoped for £150million, Chelsea found a good, financial opportunity in Romelu Lukaku despite spending a record £97.5m and moved on for the summer having filled the hole they had.

Could the Blues return to try and tempt the former RB Salzburg star?

“Yeah we tried for both,” Tuchel joked after signing Lukaku.

“We tried both and wanted to have [Robert] Lewandowski on the number 10 behind but unfortunately the board didn’t listen so we need to be happy with only Romelu!”

That interaction in many ways says how ridiculous the notion is, even given Chelsea’s ability to spend like few other clubs in the world.

But it wouldn’t be the first time Chelsea have tried to take advantage of a release clause, as they signed Timo Werner before the 2019/20 season was over by activating his.

Chelsea loanee and current Southampton forward Armando Broja is on a red-hot streak regarding his form on the international stage for Albania.

Broja, 20, hasn’t let his limited appearances for the Saints deter the brilliance that he keeps delivering on the international scene as his 80th-minute winner has put his home nation in a good place in England’s World Cup qualifying group.

His aforementioned strike – which saw him run down the right, cut in and fire home superbly from a tight angle in a 1-0 win vs Hungary – means that he has now scored three goals in their senior squad since making his debut in 2020, despite only starting eight games for his country so far.

Talk then turned to comparisons for the striker and this time Costa’s name wasn’t mentioned which came as a surprise.

@saintshedrack tweeted: ‘This guy reminds me of prime Torres.’

@ChelseaBias made a more outstanding comparison: ‘What a brilliant individual goal he scored. If that was Messi…’
