Tottenham will be the first side to face Newcastle United under their new owners when they make the lengthy trip to St. James’ Park on Sunday.
Nuno Espirito Santo will be eager to see his side build on their 2-1 win against Aston Villa before the international break, a victory that put an end to a poor run of results.
Defeats to Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Arsenal left the pressure stacked on Espirito Santo but the spirited victory at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium certainly eased it slightly.
But a unique challenge awaits this weekend. While Newcastle are yet to strengthen their squad, they are sure to be cheered on by an energised and packed ground.
The Lilywhites have been in training following the international break and football.london has taken a look at what has been spotted ahead of Premier League football’s return.
Davies became a major doubt for this weekend’s clash after he withdrew from the Wales camp last week due to illness.
” Ben Davies and David Brooks have had to withdraw from the squad due to illness. Brysiwch wella hogia! (get well soon),” read a tweet on the official Wales Twitter account.
However, the left-back has been seen in Tottenham training ahead of this weekend’s clash with the Magpies. Whether he is chosen to start ahead of Sergio Reguillon remains to be seen, however.
No South Americans
The big concern for Tottenham over this international break will have been the fitness of their South American contingent upon their return.
Cristian Romero impressed against Aston Villa but, along with Giovani Lo Celso, could miss this weekend’s clash due to an elongated CONCACAF international break.
Lucas Moura and Emerson Royal are both absent with Brazil while Davinson Sanchez was not spotted either, still on duty with Colombia.
None of them were spotted in the photographs of Spurs training on Thursday.
It has been a difficult start to the season for midfielder Tanguy Ndombele. The Frenchman has struggled to settle at the club and his future remains uncertain.
But he was in good spirits on Thursday and all smiles as Tottenham prepared for their journey north, appearing to be wrestled by goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini at Hotspur Way.
It’s all in good fun though!
