Federico Chiesa introduced himself to the world during Euro 2020 and Chelsea fans were rather excited to see their club linked with the exciting Italian in the weeks that followed.

The 23-year-old showed he had a knack for the spectacular with his strikes against Austria and Spain and rumours started to circulate that Thomas Tuchel wanted to reunite him with Azzurri teammate Jorginho at Stamford Bridge.

Ultimately, a deal never materialised, but still, supporters continue to dream with many hoping to see the winger signed in January or, at the latest, in the summer.

His impressive winner against Chelsea in the Champions League group stages only intensified the desire to see him sign on the dotted line in west London too.

In fact, after that match plenty of fans took to Twitter to demand club director Marina Granovskaia won the race for his signature, with some even going as far as to call Chiesa their ‘dream signing.’

Chelsea reportedly had a €100m (£85m) rejected in the summer by Juventus, which would show just how highly they value their star man.

However, despite admiring the player, former Chelsea right-back Glen Johnson does not believe that it would be a wise signing for the Blues.

“I didn’t know too much about him before the Euros but he’s a quick winger, hard-working and looks like he’s got the attributes to suit the Premier League.

“Whether Chelsea is the right fit, I’m not sure. I don’t think they need him. If they could get him, they would, but I don’t think they need to. But I believe he’s the sort of player that, when he needs to, would perform in a way that would suit the Premier League.”

Chiesa currently has 16 goals in 50 appearances for Juventus since signing from Fiorentina in October 2020.

He joined the club on a two-year loan deal that will expire this summer with the Turin giants obligated to buy him for €40m (£34m).
