Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans has suggested that he ranks his strike against Chelsea in the FA Cup final more highly than this weekend’s wonderful effort versus Manchester United.

The Belgian midfielder rifled home a stunning goal for the Foxes at Wembley Stadium back in May. He picked up the ball outside of the penalty area and let fly with a shot that flew past Kepa Arrizabalaga.

There was some controversy in the way he found the net against the Blues though, with Ayoze Perez having been accused of a handball in the build-up but neither the referee nor VAR were interested.

Tielemans was at it again this weekend as he netted an equally brilliant goal with a lofted effort in Leicester’s 4-2 victory against Manchester United at the King Power Stadium – albeit having seemed to originally be a cross into the Red Devils’ box.

When asked which goal he thought was his personal favourite, the 24-year-old had a forthright answer.

Talking to Belgian outlet HLN, he said: “My goal? It was indeed the intention. Is it my best goal for Leicester? I don’t think so.

“The one in the Cup Final was nicer. But it was a nice hit, yes. We know we can bring good football, now we have to continue with this momentum.”

Of course, Thomas Tuchel’s men got revenge on Leicester not long after their defeat at Wembley.

They overcame the Foxes 2-1 at Stamford Bridge just three days later, goals coming from Antonio Rudiger and Jorginho despite Kelechi Iheanacho having pulled a goal back for the East-Midlanders.

The loss proved terminal in Leicester’s pursuit of Champions League football towards the end of last season.

Despite Chelsea falling to defeat on the last final day of the season, Leicester were themselves beaten by Tottenham Hotspur to finish fifth and earn a second consecutive season in the Europa League.

Tielemans himself has questions over his future at the King Power Stadium with just under two years left on his current Leicester contract.
