Chelsea bounced back to winning ways in the Champions League in emphatic fashion on Wednesday night, beating Malmo 4-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Andreas Christensen opened the scoring inside the opening 10 minutes, volleying home smartly from a Thiago Silva cross to ease any nerves that were lingering in west London, the Dane’s first goal for the club.

Twelve minutes later, it was 2-0. As Romelu Lukaku bared down on goal he was fouled, giving Jorginho the chance to score from the spot which he did with ease – although the foul did force Lukaku from the field with an injury.

The second half saw substitute Kai Havertz make it three with a smart chipped finish before Jorginho rounded off the scoring with his second penalty of the night.

A great result that kept Thomas Tuchel’s side within three points of group H leaders Juventus with three matches played.

While there was plenty for both Tuchel and the fans to be pleased about, it was the goal scored by Christensen that appeared to be the most popular moment.

The Denmark international has been an essential part of the German’s side this season and is viewed as significantly underrated outside of the club.

His popularity within the club is also evident.

After the full-time whistle, Blues midfielder Mateo Kovacic sent a seven-word message of congratulations to Christensen.

“Congratulations on your first @ChelseaFC goal, Andreas!” he wrote on Twitter.

Prior to Wednesday night, the 25-year-old had played 136 times for Chelsea without finding the net, so it is no surprise that it was such a popular moment.

This weekend sees the Blues welcome Norwich City to Stamford Bridge in the Premier League – could Christensen find the net again?
