‘Better striker than Lukaku’ – West Ham agree after what Michail Antonio did vs Tottenham

West Ham United have enjoyed a stellar 2021/22 campaign so far.

The Hammers had lost just two of their first eight Premier League games going into this weekend’s action whilst also winning all of their three UEFA Europa League fixtures, keeping three clean sheets in the process.

David Moyes ‘ side hosted rivals Tottenham Hotspur at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon, delivering a solid defensive display to shut out the Lilywhites as centre-forward Michail Antonio scored the only goal of the game.

The home side surrendered the majority of possession throughout the contest but created the better opportunities, registering 1.72 xG compared to Spurs’ 0.62 (Infogol).

West Ham broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute as fullback Aaron Cresswell delivered an excellent corner from the left flank before Antonio poked the ball past a helpless Hugo Lloris in the Tottenham goal.

The Jamaican international has now scored seven goals in all competitions, providing a further four assists for his teammates and today’s finish sent the east London club into fourth place in the current league standings.
