Nigerian governors are land-grabbers – Varsity don

Nigerian governors have been described as  ‘land-grabbers’ in their respective states.

This was the view of a Professor of Estate Management at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, Dr. Bioye Tajudeen Aluko.

The university don said this, on Wednesday, in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, during the 2021 Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Seminar (MCPD) of the Nigerian Institute of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), with the theme, ‘Effective Land Administration System Toward Elegant Formal Land Market In Nigeria’.

Prof. Aluko, who was Guest Speaker at the seminar, said state governors had penchant for enriching themselves and their political associates through acquiring other people’s land and allocating same to those in their good books.

According to him, Nigerian state governors put land administration under their care, and he wondered how a sitting governor would have enough time to administer lands when he should be busy with other developmental projects.

Prof. Aluko, therefore, condemned the Land Use Act, asking that it should be removed from the Nigerian Constitution.
