Rio Ferdinand and Antonio Di Natale have told Chelsea why they should secure £84m transfer

Juventus forward Federico Chiesa is once again being strongly linked with a big-money move to Chelsea.

According to Italian news outlet Calciomercato, the west London club are ready to make a ‘monster’ £84million offer to the Italian outfit for the 24-year-old’s services.

The Blues have repeatedly been linked with Chiesa, who has impressed for Juve so far this season – with the winger scoring what turned out to be the winning goal in his side’s 1-0 win against Chelsea in September.

The Italy international has shone in the Champions League so far this term – and it looks like the Blues have enjoyed what they have seen.

Manchester United have also been linked with the highly-rated Italian attacker, but according to reports, Chelsea look like the front runners right now.

Former United defender Rio Ferdinand has previously waxed lyrical and thinks clubs in England will be very interested with what he is doing at the moment.

Speaking on BT Sport, Ferdinand said: “He is a huge player and he has been linked with a few clubs in England. I’m sure they are thinking: ‘Why didn’t we get him?’

“He is just a fantastic footballer. The intensity with which he plays with, we saw in the Euros he was the main goal threat for the Italians who went on to win the tournament.

“It is his pace, his drive. He is the one who is the threat, he is potent, he wants to run in behind. He is that modern-day striker who can play anywhere across the front line and he is as comfortable out wide as he is through the middle. He unnerves defenders with that pace – he is so direct.”

Ferdinand is not the only big name who is a huge fan of Chiesa’s ability, with former Italy striker Antonio Di Natale also full of praise for the Juventus star recently.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, via One Football, over the summer, Di Natale said that Chiesa is always improving, but he believes his strongest position is out wide, rather than through the centre.

Di Natale said: “If Chiesa wasn’t a strong player, Juventus would not have invested so much in him. Already in his first season in Turin, he showed what he is worth. And at Euro 2020, he is confirming his talent with some great plays and goals.

“The one he scored against Spain is of rare beauty. He is a player I like a lot because he is unpredictable. He goes right, left, and makes some fakes. You never know where he’s going.

“Besides, he’s a serious guy. He grows and gets stronger with every day, you can see that he wants to improve. I played against his father who is also a very good person.

“However, I don’t see him playing as a striker. I have always said that I see more Insigne in that role, as he’s showing great maturity. He also scored an impressive goal. The great thing about Mancini’s team is that one or two different players explode in every match.”

If the likes of Thomas Tuchel and Marina Granovskaia needed any more convincing to sign Chiesa, then the evidence is right there.

Chelsea may have to act fast, though, with Manchester United and Liverpool also said to be interested in the Italian star.
