Flamengo are weighing up a January move for Pablo Mari with the Arsenal defender expected to consider his options, football.london understands.
The 28-year-old centre-back has found his game time limited this season with Gunners boss Mikel Arteta preferring the partnership of Gabriel and summer signing Ben White in defence.
Mari joined from Brazilian side Flamengo in January 2020, but has only played twice this season and opportunities are only likely to come in the cup competitions for the experienced defender.
Whilst his former club remain interested in taking him on loan, Mari’s salary will remain a stumbling block for most teams outside of Europe.
The Spaniard gave an interview towards the end of last season where he revealed that he hopes to stay at Arsenal for “many more years”.
However, football.london understands that if his game time does not improve over the coming months, Mari will consider a move away from the club.
“I’ve been at five clubs over the last four years,” Mari said in April 2020.
“This is a footballer’s life. If you want to play football and you want to improve [to get to a big club] then every year you need to move.
“Maybe when you find a club that is good for you, then you can stay and improve with that club. I have found myself here at Arsenal. It is a really good option for me.
“I want to stay here and improve as a player and a person. I want to be here for many more years.”
Mari has played 15 times for Arsenal since arriving from Flamengo in January 2020.
Eleven of those games have been wins, while Mari has only drawn two and lost two during his time at the club.
