Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira has confirmed that centre-back Joachim Andersen will not travel with the squad to face Leeds United tomorrow.

The Danish international missed the home defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday with a suspected hamstring injury, with Vieira stating after the game that the defender would be assessed on Monday morning and a decision would be made from there.

Andersen has been an important member of the Crystal Palace team this season, starting 11 consecutive matches alongside Marc Guehi at the heart of the Eagles’ new-look defence.

His ability on the ball and immense passing range has helped Palace adapt to their new possession-based style of play much easier, and his absence against Villa was sorely missed.

Now, ahead of Palace’s trip to Elland Road on Tuesday, the Eagles boss has confirmed that Andersen will be unavailable for selection due to his injury and that the club would be monitoring his progress daily to ensure a speedy recovery.

“He [Joachim] is not going to travel, he is not 100 per cent,” Vieira said in his pre-match press conference.

“We don’t know [the extent of the injury], we have to evaluate the injuries every day and see how he’s feeling. But for the game tomorrow it will be too short.”

Vieira’s side will get an immediate chance to right the wrongs of Saturday’s 2-1 defeat against Villa when they take on Marcelo Bielsa’s side at Elland Road.

The Eagles boss was unhappy with his side’s performance on the weekend, with the team conceding yet another goal from a set-piece early on in the match and failing to control possession for long spells in the first half.

“When you play a game that you didn’t perform at your best you always want to play straight away, to bounce back and play better,” added the Frenchman.

“This game is coming at the right time. We want to play because we were disappointed with the way we played against Villa.”
