Antonio Conte has made his intentions clear that he’s looking to bring players in during the January transfer window.
Conte will look to the window to add some much needed strength in depth, as he looks to continue to build off from an impressive start to life in north London.
Spurs are unbeaten in the league since the Italian took over from Nuno Espirito Santo and are looking to continue moving in the right direction ahead of a race for European football next season.
We’ve dived into the latest rumours and offered our rating for whether the speculation might come to fruition.
Tottenham interested in Philippe Coutinho loan
Sky Sports, along with a number of outlets, have reported that Tottenham are one of several clubs to be interested in bringing in former Liverpool attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho in on loan.
The Brazilian has struggled to live up to expectations at life at Barcelona after signing for a world record fee of £140m in 2018.
Three other Premier League clubs are said to be interested in signing Coutinho with Arsenal, Aston Villa and Newcastle reported to be keen too.
Reports suggest that Coutinho will make a decision on his next club within the next few days.
This is something Spurs should definitely be interested in.
Philippe Coutinho is a significant upgrade over every other attacking midfielder at the club and he’ll cost them almost nothing.
Spurs haven’t been able to replace the creativity lost since Christian Eriksen left for Inter back in 2020 – something Coutinho could absolutely provide.
An underrated player off-the-ball, Coutinho fits into Conte’s style perfectly. If he’s even close to his Liverpool form, the Brazilian could be an excellent signing for Spurs.
Spurs and Arsenal’s £50m battle for Tariq Lamptey
The Express have reported that Spurs and Arsenal have both shown interest in Brighton right-back Tariq Lamptey.
Since leaving Chelsea for just £4.5m in 2020, Lamptey has developed into one of the best young defenders in the Premier League.
Lamptey has firmly established himself as Brighton’s first-choice right-back and has put in a number of standout performances over the past 18 months.
With Matt Doherty expected to leave Spurs and question marks over £20m man Emerson Royal, the Express claim Conte could look to Lamptey as the club’s long-term answer at right-back.
Lamptey looks destined for great things in the Premier League – performing at his level at the age of 21 is something to get excited about.
He’s going to struggle to get in the England squad because of the sheer volume of quality in the right-back position at the moment, but Lamptey is already showing why he’s one of the best attacking full-backs in the league.
At his age, he could quite easily play at the elite level for the next dozen years and save Spurs having to pay out another big fee in the position. If Spurs are able to get him for £50m, they should get the deal done.
