Thomas Tuchel explains why he didn’t use his subs sooner vs Brighton » Chelsea News

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was a downbeat figure in his post-match press conference last night.

His side had just thrown away a 1-0 half time lead against a tough side, Brighton. However, at the end of the game Chelsea were very lucky to even come away with a point because they were by far the worse side.

Brighton had more quality, and they simply wanted it more.

Thomas Tuchel has put it down to tiredness and fatigue, yet the odd thing about that was he didn’t use any substitutes until the last ten minutes of the match. He also started players who played the last match and were particularly poor then.

I get it though, of course we are struggling with fatigue, our schedule has been crazy and we’ve had those Covid-19 cases and injuries recently, we’ve had back luck.

But unfortunately the Chelsea board will only be interested in results. So why didn’t he make those changes sooner?

“If I had the impression we needed them earlier I would’ve done them earlier,” Tuchel said via Football London.

“You never know and time passes by.

“We could’ve done it earlier but I had to wait to see if Brighton changed their structure, we struggled with Marcos Alonso on a yellow card, so there were reasons not to do it earlier. It’s why we did it in the last 15 minutes.”
