Will Kyle Walker replace Alexander-Arnold in the England squad?

Kyle Walker Man City England

England play two matches during the upcoming international break and surprisingly, Man City’s Kyle Walker was left out of the squad by Gareth Southgate.

The right-back is having another great season for Manchester City and this season, he has a rating of 7.26 out of 10 in the Premier League. But despite his impressive performances, Southgate chose to go ahead with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Reece James.

Pep Guardiola was equally surprised with the omission of the right-back but the manager made it clear that Kyle Walker will return to the national set-up really soon.

“It’s difficult for me to say about the national teams. I respect the guys. Kyle (Walker) is incredibly important for us, for the success in the past and the future,” said Guardiola in a press conference.

“He will be back in the national team. I don’t know what has happened. Gareth (Southgate) talked with Kyle and the reasons why.”

“I had a long chat with him and we felt this was an opportunity to look at the two younger full-backs,” explained Southgate. “We know all there is to know about Kyle, he’ll be back with us for the games in June.

“He’s a very important part of the progress we’ve made and you can see in the biggest matches for Manchester City he’s still been such a key player for them.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold has picked up an untimely hamstring injury and he is going to remain on the sidelines for the next few weeks. This is a major blow for Liverpool as well as England but this could be great news for Kyle Walker.

The England manager left Walker out of the squad only to give him some time off but now that Trent Alexander-Arnold is out with an injury, there’s every chance the Man City man will have to return to the national team set-up.

England play their first match on the 26th of March so the manager still has some time to ponder over his decision but there’s no denying that Kyle Walker is currently the favourite to replace the Liverpool right-back.
