Juventus would have to sell key player to afford Rudiger freebie » Chelsea News

Last week saw a front page splash in Italy’s Gazzetta dello Sport, claiming that Antonio Rudiger was set to sign for Juventus, with a contract practically agreed ahead of his free transfer away from Chelsea this summer.

But after a weekend of excitement there has been some pushback on the peninsula.

Tony Damascelli is quoted by Calciomercato as giving some bad news (for Juventus fans). He says that the Old Lady would only be able to afford Rudiger’s massive wage demands if they get rid of a player – he suggests central defender Matthijs de Ligt.

We can see the temptation for Juve – sell your centre back for a big price and get a freebie replacement – but that all depends on finding someone to pay big money for de Ligt.

And why would any top team do that, when they know they can just get Rudiger on a free instead? It’s all rather paradoxical.
