Jorginho was dropped for Chelsea’s games against Real Madrid in the Champions League, and many Blues fans thought that was a mistake.
He returned to the team for yesterday’s game against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup semi final, and in one 90 minute game he showed his best and worst sides.
In the first period he was slow and sluggish, and Palace really overwhelmed him. But as the game wore on he grew into it, and once Chelsea had the lead and their opposition had to push higher, space opened up for the Italy international to get into his groove.
Palace midfielder James McArthur admitted that his team just hadn’t been able to get close to the former Napoli man:
“We thought that the previous games, they hurt us a lot and those areas we tried to change. We nullified them, especially in the first-half. In the second-half, we didn’t get enough pressure on Jorginho especially and they dictated play,” the Scot said in quotes picked up by the Evening Standard.
Palace gave a valiant first half effort against the Blues, but the volley from Ruben Loftus-Cheek changed everything, and once we were able to get Jorginho into gear, there was no stopping us.
