The Athletic‘s summary of Chelsea’s complex summer ahead was full of really interesting snippets, but one in particular raised out eyebrows, Carlo Ancelotti style.
The piece mentions Chelsea’s ongoing interest in Achraf Hakimi – something that we had all assumed was ended when he signed for PSG last summer.
According to this, Chelsea haven’t given up on him as a long term top tier target.
His arrival always seemed odd considering the Blues already have one of the world’s top players in that position, with plenty of weaknesses to be filled elsewhere.
But Thomas Tuchel’s use of Reece James as a wide centre back this season shows that there could yet be room for Hakimi down the right.
The pair of them marauding down the same flank together is a truly scary prospect.
The fact he signed for PSG last summer makes any move in the near future seem impossible, but this is certainly one to keep an eye out for over the next year or so.
