Fabrizio Romano’s column on CaughtOffside this week has some interesting Chelsea content.
On Romelu Lukaku, the transfer insider makes it sound very much like the striker’s future is uncertain.
He says that Lukaku has been “evaluating his situation for weeks” and now needs to meet with the club to “clarify” what happens next.
To us, there’s just no way out of this mess for player or for the club. He’s on too much money to be loaned out anywhere, and he cost too much for Chelsea to be able to sell him for a non-humiliating loss this summer.
So they can have any many clarifying meetings as they like – he’s not going anywhere, unless he makes unprecedented and unrealistic concessions in his wages.
What they can do in a meeting is assure him he’s still a valuable piece going forward, to try and massage his ego and get some confidence back into him.
