Chelsea have released a long statement today confirming the club’s new ownership, and in contrast to most of the publications by Roman Abramovich’s team, it contains a lot of detail, telling the whole story of how the sale was made.

There’s one really eye-catching claim in there: that there were 250 real bids for the club, of which a full 100 had “detailed discussions” with Abramovich’s team, and 32 entered into confidentiality agreements which allowed them to get detailed information about the club’s internal finances.

On these very pages we reported on maybe ten to fifteen of them – and we will be eternally curious about the other dozen or more that were serious enough to given confidential information by the club, but never surfaced enough to become public.

We’re sure some of them will raise their hands in the future – we wonder if there were any big names in among the interested parties?
