Fabrizio Romano’s piece on CaughtOffside this week has some interesting Chelsea content, as always.
He reports on the new ownership and its priorities now it’s taken over from Roman Abramovich.
Two names he picks out who are already at the club are Mason Mount and N’Golo Kante. He says that the ownership want to “clarify” their situation once they take over.
In Mount’s case, that almost certainly translates to him getting a massive new contract to tie him to the club for 5 years or more – if he accepts.
Kante’s situation is a little different. This meeting could be used to tell him he’s reached the end of the road at Chelsea and will be replaced. But it’s hard to imagine the new owners doing something so disruptive and risky, and it feels more likely he will simply be told he still has a future at the club if he wants to stay.
He would then likely be offered a one year extension or similar to stop him leaving on a free transfer in a year’s time.
