Manchester City would rather not sell their stars to Premier League rivals – but in the case of Raheem Sterling they may not have much of a choice.
Like so many of the top stars around at the moment, Sterling is running down his contract, and finds himself now with just 12 months remaining.
He could play out his final season at the Etihad and have his pick of clubs as a free agent in a year’s time. But equally he also now has the leverage to push a move through, with City knowing this is their last chance to get a transfer fee for him.
The Telegraph today report that the winger is wanted by Chelsea, among other top European clubs.
They point out that Thomas Tuchel is desperate to add goals and assists to his attack – and Sterling has the numbers.
But how many of those stats come purely from playing in Pep’s brilliant system? We will only find out when Sterling leaves it.
