Premier League side Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The 27-year-old Serbia international has been a transfer target for Manchester United and the Red Devils had been keeping a close eye on his situation at Lazio.

Savic is expected to leave the Serie A in the summer and according to the latest rumours, Lazio will not stand in his way if a good enough offer comes in for the Serbian.

This news seems to have ignited the interest of Arsenal because they are now ready to shell out around €60 million for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic a fee which is just falling short of what Lazio are currently demanding.

Do Arsenal need a player like Savic?

The Gunners are on the verge of signing Youri Tielemans from Leicester City but still, a player like Sergej Milinkovic-Savic will undoubtedly be a fine addition to their squad.

The 27-year-old has been with Lazio since 2015 and during this time, he’s turned himself into one of the best central midfielders in the Italian league. He’s played close to 300 games for the club, scoring 58 goals.

He’s primarily a central midfielder but also has the ability to play in the No 10 role which means he will be a competition for Xhaka and Tielemans but also Odegaard.

Arsenal need players with proper European experience to help them get back into the Champions League and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic can very well be that man.

Will Arsenal lose out to Manchester United?

Now that Lazio have made up their mind regarding a sale, Manchester United are expected to come back for the 27-year-old so Arsenal won’t be alone in this transfer race.

However, Frenkie de Jong remains the primary target for Erik ten Hag and once he comes on board, United won’t have too much money left to splurge on Savic.

If De Jong arrives at Manchester then Arsenal will have a very good chance to outbid their Premier League rivals but otherwise, it’s the Red Devils who are more likely to get their hands on Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
