BREAKING: Banks’ll still accept old Naira notes after deadline – Emefiele

Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Mr. Godwiun Emefiele has assured federal lawmakers in the House of Representatives that banks would continue to accept the old Naira notes even after the deadline for swapping with the newly-designed currency notes, which has now been shifted to February 10, 2023.

Mr. Emefiele gave this assurance, on Tuesday, while appearing before the House of Representatives committee on the new Naira redesign and naira swap policy.

The CBN chief said banks would still accept the old notes after the deadline.

He said subject to Section 20, Subsection 3 of the CBN Act 2007, even after the old currencies had lost legal tender status, the CBN would continue to accept the old notes.
