2 Dead, 37 Rescued, Scores Trapped as Plaza Collapses in Abuja

Two persons were feared dead while 37 persons were rescued after a two-storey plaza collapsed at Lagos street, Garki Village area, Abuja on Wednesday night.

Several persons were still trapped in the piles as at the time of filing this report.

The Director General of Federal Emergency Management Agency, (FEMA) Dr Abbass Iddriss said emergency workers rescued the persons from the rubble.

He said the affected persons had been evacuated to various medical facilities in Abuja.

“Thirty seven persons have so far been rescued and evacuated to Hospital, others reportedly still trapped.

“Rescue team and others are on ground. 

Rescue operations on but slowly due to ongoing rain”. 

” They are making frantic efforts at getting an excavator to remove people from the rubble”, Iddriss said.

He commended the efforts of all stakeholders working hard manually to rescue trapped persons, including members of the community. 

He revealed that rescue mission was ongoing while they awaited the arrival of equipment to enhance the operations.
